Mace is a lifelong participant and member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and grew up in Oklahoma. He attended Phillips University where he received a bachelor's degree in religion and history with a philosophy minor in 1968. Following several years in the pastorate, Mace attended the George Peabody College for Teachers, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn., where he received his doctorate of education. North Georgia Methodist Annual Conference

The North Georgia Methodist Annual Conference will be held Wednesday through June 18 at The Classic Center, 300 N. Thomas St. Conference attendees will participate in a number of administrative and worship sessions, as well as fellowship during meals and receptions. Attendees will participate in the fourth annual conference 5K Run/Walk. Proceeds from the race will benefit The North Georgia Housing and Homeless Council, which helps Athens area and North Georgia churches and nonprofit organizations minister to very poor and homeless people.
